Local church St. Mary’s Congregation invites everybody to join their AA support group every other Thursday. “Together, we will help you to overcome the struggles of addiction, helping you to enlighten your life again” declares Susan O’Connor, who’s been working for in the field for over 20 years. Oregon ranked sixth out of all states in rates of illicit drug use in 2013 and 2014, according to federal statistics. Given the local data, almost 20% of Silvercreek residents had or still have to deal with an alcohol or drug addiction. Now offering free programs, St. Mary’s Congregation wants to make a change. “Don’t be shy or ashamed,” Susan smiled presenting the spacious meeting room with tables filled with free snacks and refreshing nonalcoholic beverages. “Making the first step requires courage and I pray for all those in need to find it in their hearts and join us!”
